Ismini Samanidou is an Athens born and London based textile designer and artist.
Ismini’s work touches on the boundaries of art design and craft and involves developing textile works through commissions and interdisciplinary collaborations. Weaving is used as a language to communicate and express ideas through a ‘hands on’ approach integrating digital technologies and craft skills.
For the months of May and June Ismini has been invited to take up a residency at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut, USA, working and living in a studio in the woods. She is using this blog as an online diary to document and share her experiences.
The residency has been made possible with funding from Grants for the Arts from Arts Council England, the Worshipful Company of Weavers and the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester. A very big thank you to the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation for inviting me to become an artist in residence this Spring.
